With so many businesses being closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many employees are working remotely. Although working from home has its benefits, there are a few things to keep in mind, such as ensuring you maintain a good posture to prevent recurring stress injuries and technical stress on the neck – physical strain on the neck after looking down for more extended periods.
To ensure that your work environment is healthy, productive, and profitable, follow these tips that suggest best practices for working from home during this “new normal’.
Well, this space does not have to be a “real” office, but it should be a space dedicated to you and your work. Get your space set with a desk, a computer, and all the accessories you need. A dedicated area also ensures privacy to you and to your clients or customers. Office space does not mean sitting or standing at a desk all day. Movement is best for your health. So consider walking or standing during calls!
Working well in your home office means investing in high-quality technology. Consider investing in comfortable and functional office furniture – an ergonomic chair, a large desk, and possibly bookshelves and cabinets. If you have back issues, consider a standing desk and high stools for added comfort. Remember, every purchase is an investment in your work from home, so spend on the items you need to work comfortably and efficiently.
Studies have shown that the brain responds to routine positively that starts by waking up at the same time every day. Before starting your work; get dressed, do some yoga, have breakfast and make a cup of coffee. Yes, indeed, a routine consisting of everything you do to get started every day will help you be successful at work from home!
Some positions require you to be available at certain times, while others offer greater flexibility, allowing you to work at times that suit you (as working during hours your children are in school). Either way, you want to be on a schedule and stick to it. Doing so is essential to achieving work-life balance as both occur in the same place.
At first, this may seem counterintuitive, but taking breaks can increase your concentration and productivity. Taking a break every 90 minutes is the most common and effective way to boost your productivity. As you work from home, your breaks can include stretching, exercise, meditation, or a healthy snack. It will relax your mind, helping you regain focus and magnify your creativity and productivity when you return to work.
If you are not alone at home during working hours, make the rules for working from home clear to your friends and family members. Even though you are at home, you are doing work! Also avoid working in a shared space as this will cause distractions that might delay your schedule. If you set clear boundaries in the beginning, you will get better performance.
Working from home is unique and full of benefits and challenges. These tips will help you work successfully from home during this new normal. Remember, though, that you need to figure out what works best for you and do it!
And if working from home turned into pain – as in your neck, back, or shoulders, consider getting chiropractic treatments that promote pain relief and well-being.
